This is Ratio 411 OO/HO GWR/LMS Loading Gauge. After loading, open wagons were checked for height using this simple gauge to ensure that loads did not hit bridges, etc. In reality, the ends of the gauges lifted using a system of wires and pulleys. GWR gauges dating from the 1890’s had this facility to allow broad gauge stock to pass underneath, but it also stopped it hitting cab crew! GWR/LMS Design.
