Description
This is a 221 Vintage O NYC Dreyfuss Black 2-6-4 Steam Loco & 221-T -Repainted from 1947. The black 221 replaced the gray 221 in the ’47 line. Features include a painted die-cast boiler, 2-6-4 wheel arrangement, detailed driving wheel hardware, black drive wheels, sheet-metal trailing truck, three-position E-unit, headlight plus wire handrails. The number is always stamped below the cab window. It comes with a 221T non-whistling tender which is painted to match the color of the steamer and has the New York Central lettering decals on each side. Many collectors and operators still enjoy the 221. Although it is somewhat under-sized in terms of scale length, there is still a certain charm to this unique-looking locomotive. Clean examples of this steamer — especially ones with original and completely intact tender decals — are rare.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. There are light nicks and scratches on the surfaces of both the locomotive and tender. Light specs of rust on side rods. Previous owner has repainted both items and the lettering on the tender. When up close, brush strokes and imperfections are visible on the tender lettering. A few light spots of paint chips and rub marks are still visible on their surfaces. Wheels show light signs of wear from previous use. The instruction manuals and original boxes are not included with these items. Check the photos for a detailed look at this item. Overall condition is Excellent.
