Here we have a Kato 37-6445 HO Burlington Northern Santa Fe AC4400CW Heritage II Diesel Locomotive #5642. General Electric AC4400CW is a 4,400 horsepower diesel-electric locomotive that was built by GE Transportation Systems btween 1993 and 2004. It is similiar to the Dash 9-44CW, but features AC traction motors instead of DC, with a seperate inverter per motor. There were 2,598 General Electric AC4400CW locomotive produced for North American railroads. As a result of more strigent emissions requirements that came into effect in the United States on January 1, 2005, the AC4400CW has been replaced by the General Electric ES44AC.
In 1999, BNSF accepted delivery of three AC4400CW locomotives numbered 5600-5602. Satisfied with their performance, BNSF ordered an additional quantity of locomotives numbered 5603-5652. Our model follows the details of this later production, including GE’s most current inverter cabinet panel design.
