Here is a Lionel 6-8578 O Gauge New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car from 1985. This is a reissue of the Postwar Era 54 Ballast Tamper. It features a set of small pile drivers on the front that move up and down and “tamp” down the ballast rock along the track. The tamping action is controlled by track activators. When the tamping action is activated, the motor slows down to half speed.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-8: Like New based on visual appearance. The wheels show signs of wear. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is included. Overall condition is Like New.
