This is Lionel 6-81228 O BTO C&O E8 A-A Diesels/Legacy. Chesapeake & Ohio LEGACY scale E8 diesel AA Set (Pwr #4027 & non-pwr #4024). Many of the most famous passenger trains in the United States were pulled by the classic EMD E8 diesel locomotive.

The E8 was produced from 1949 until the mid-1950s, when it was replaced by its successor, which was produced until the mid-1960s. Hundreds of these locomotive types were produced, and many went on to be used in freight service and scores still exist today.
