Here is a Kato 176-0941 N SPSF Kodachrome C30-7 Diesel Locomotive #8013. Kato introduced this model in December of 1994. They recycled the mechanism from their U30C of 1989. It is a typical “2nd generation” locomotive featuring some modern features like a split frame and flywheels. It also was constructed with Kato’s “low friction drive” which meant a smooth running quite locomotive with excellent pickup. In 2011, Kato re-tooled this model and introduced a new frame that can support a drop-in decoder. The shell also comes with Kato knuckle couplers and full pilots. The shells of the two versions are *mostly* identical.
